Following is the information:
(a) The total receipts from tobacco are shown in the column 2 of the following table.
As regards (b) the bulk of the revenue is obtained from raw leaf imported for manufacture into cigarettes, pipe tobaccos and other products. The duties on the leaf are collected without reference to end use and, accordingly, accurate statistics of the receipts from leaf used in the manufacture of cigarettes are not available. However, the figures in column (4) of the table indicate broadly the percentage of the receipts from raw leaf derived from leaf used in the manufacture of cigarettes. The great bulk of the balance of the receipts from raw leaf would be derived from leaf used in the production of pipe tobacco with comparatively insignificant receipts coming from leaf used in the manufacture of snuff and cigars.
