6.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applications for telephones at present in his Department (1) for the whole country, (2) for each county, and (3) which have been outstanding for two years or over in each county.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it included in the Official Report.

NOTE: The numbers given are approximate figures because exchange area boundaries do not correspond exactly with county boundaries.

Would the Minister be so kind as to answer (1)?

The total number at 31st of October, 1964 was 12,531.

It is getting worse.

It was 10,000 the last time.

There are several thousand in course of installation. You want to take that into consideration.

Remember that it used to be only a few hundred at one time.

The great failure of the present Government.

One of them.

We are giving them a service.
