Vol. 212 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions: Contributions Paid in Great Britain.

33.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he proposes to amend the regulations so that contributions paid in respect of employment in Great Britain will be accepted for the purpose of qualifying for old age contributory pensions.

Any question of taking British contributions into account for the purpose of qualifying for old age (contributory) pension falls to be dealt with by way of reciprocal arrangements with the British Authorities in regard to pensions. As I have already indicated in reply to questions, preliminary discussions took place last May between officers of my Department and officers of the British Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance on the possibility of such reciprocal arrangements and it is hoped to have further discussions at an early date.
