Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Development Plan.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals have been submitted to him by Dublin Corporation for a re-development plan for Dublin; and if he will give details and say what decisions have been made on the proposals.

No re-development proposals have been submitted for my approval by Dublin Corporation. The Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, confers wide powers on local planning authorities generally to secure the renewal of obsolete areas, and my approval to the use of these powers is required only in so far as compulsory acquisition or borrowing may be proposed.

The Corporation has considered and accepted a pilot scheme of urban renewal in the area bounded by Parnell Street, O'Connell Street, Bachelor's Walk and Ormond Quay, and Capel Street. This scheme, which was prepared by a Planning Consultant engaged by the Corporation on my advice, is designed to illustrate the planning principles applicable to urban renewal projects generally and to serve as a guide to the application of those principles to re-development in the area concerned. The question of putting the scheme or any variation of the scheme into effect is a matter for consideration and decision by the Corporation.
