Vol. 212 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Home Assistance Officers.

48.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that in some cases temporary home assistance officers have been employed by local authorities for periods of up to eight years temporary service without the county managers concerned having made the customary six-monthly application for sanction for these officers to be employed for a further six-month period; and whether these officers have now the right to be employed as permanent home assistance officers.

Except in special circumstances, local authorities may extend the period of appointment of temporary assistance officers without sanction.

Appointment of a temporary officer as a permanent assistance officer is governed by the provisions of section 19 of the Local Government Act, 1941.
