Vol. 212 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ardrahan (Galway) Dispensary.

6.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the fact that the residents of the Ardrahan area in County Galway are greatly dissatisfied with the decision to abolish the Ardrahan dispensary; if in the circumstances he will reconsider the matter; and if he will receive a deputation from the residents regarding it.

I am aware that there have been local representations regarding the abolition of Ardrahan dispensary district.

I made the Order abolishing this dispensary district in April, 1963, following receipt and full consideration of proposals to this effect received from Galway County Council which had been unanimously approved by the council. My decision was taken after full deliberation and I considered the matter fully again when I received a resolution passed by Galway County Council on 25th January, 1964 requesting me to revoke the Order. As result of this reconsideration, I was satisfied that the case for the abolition of Ardrahan Dispensary District was sound and reasonable and I informed the council in April, 1964 that I did not consider that I would be justified in revoking the Order.

Since then I have received representations from local bodies in the matter but these have brought no additional material factors to light which were not previously examined by me in my consideration of the matter.

In the circumstances, I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served by my meeting a deputation from residents of the dispensary district regarding the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to raise the subject matter of this question on the Adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy in the course of the afternoon.
