Vol. 212 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ceporin Drug.

13.

asked the Minister for Health if he can give any information regarding a new drug called Ceporin recently available to Irish doctors.

The appropriate officers of my Department have carefully noted the statements, relating to the preparation in question, which have appeared in the professional and public press and, as is one of their functions, will keep themselves fully informed of its future development and therapeutic history. This, of course, will be done also by the medical and pharmaceutical professions and interested persons generally.

The Deputy will appreciate that the decision as to the use of the preparation in the treatment of any particular patient rests on the judgment of that patient's medical attendant.

To publish in the records of the House information supplied by interested parties about a therapeutic preparation would not only create a precedent but would be extremely inexpedient since it could be assumed to be an official endorsement of the preparation in question.
