Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of British Pensions Increases.

19.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has yet completed negotiations with the British Government with regard to the possibility of persons with British retirement or widows' pensions living in this country being granted such increases as are awarded in Britain; and if in view of the substantial increases now proposed for these British pensions he will now make a particular effort to enable Irish nationals holding British pensions to receive these increases.

The problems involved in making reciprocal arrangements in regard to pensions between this country and Great Britain are still being examined on both sides. The refusal by the British authorities to pay persons in this country increases in their British pensions was raised during the discussion of these problems with officers of the British Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance and it is hoped to have further discussions at an early date.
