Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condition of Tipperary Bridge.

24.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Kyleavalla bridge, Killusty, Fethard, County Tipperary, which is used for access by forestry workers, is at present in a most dangerous condition; and if he will take steps to render this bridge safe or close it completely before serious accidents or loss of life occur.

The bridge in question is private property and my Department has a right of way over it. Plans are being prepared, with the consent of the owner, for the repair of the bridge.

Can I be satisfied, as the bridge is private property, that having regard to the large number of forestry employees and staff using it, speedy steps will be taken to repair it?

Negotiations have taken place with the owner of the property to try to come to an agreement, one of the difficulties being that a bridge that would suit the purposes of the owner would not be sufficient for forestry purposes. However, I think a satisfactory agreement is being worked out.

Will there be no undue delay about repairing it, in the meantime?

There will be no undue delay.
