Vol. 213 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Christmas Relief Work.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the Christmas relief work provided for the constituency of Dublin SouthWest, its duration, and the number of men expected to be employed.

Particulars of the 1964-65 employment schemes sanctioned to date in Dublin County Borough are set out in a tabular statement which I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report.

Employment schemes in Dublin County Borough are not assigned to any specific district or constituency. In general, unemployment assistance recipients registered at the Werburgh Street employment exchange are employed on the South City schemes; and the men for the North City schemes are recruited from the Gardiner Street exchange.

It is difficult to forecast the precise duration of each scheme, but each individual workman recruited from the unemployment assistance register is normally given 12 weeks' employment. The average weekly number of men employed on all Dublin County Borough schemes is approximately 90, including 70 unemployment assistance recipients.

Following is the statement:
