asked the Minister for Health if he will state (a) the total number of disabled persons and the total sums paid to such persons in respect of maintenance allowance, who are not undergoing training for employment, (b) the total amount paid to disabled persons who are undergoing training for employment and the total number of such persons, and (c) the total amount paid to approved institutions in respect of training allowances for persons undergoing training for employment.

16,945 disabled persons who were not undergoing training for employment were in receipt of maintenance allowances under the Disabled Persons (Maintenance) Regulations, 1963 on 31/3/64 and during the year 1963/64 the total amount of maintenance allowances paid to such disabled persons was £951,737. As regards the second and third parts of the question, information is being obtained from health authorities in respect of the year 1964 and I will forward the particulars to the Deputy as soon as they are available.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give for each of the last two years for which figures are available (a) the number of persons who applied for a maintenance allowance under the Disabled Persons (Maintenance Allowances) Regulations, 1963 who were not undergoing training for employment and the number of applications granted, and (b) similar particulars in respect of applications for maintenance allowance for persons receiving training for employment under article 5 of the Regulations.
The figures sought at (a) of the Deputy's question are contained in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
Similar details are not available in respect of (b) of the Deputy's question but information is being sought from local health authorities for the year 1964 and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.
