Vol. 214 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Yield of Betting Tax.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of money collected by way of tax in starting price offices; and the percentage of this money returned to the industry.

Receipts from the excise duty on bets placed with starting price betting offices amounted to £1,333,000, approximately, in the calendar year 1964. Receipts from turnover tax on such bets totalled approximately £300,000 in that year.

Receipts from the excise duty and from the turnover tax on bets placed with starting price betting offices are paid into the Exchequer and used for the general purposes of the Government. No specific proportion of those receipts is allocated to the horse-racing industry.
