Vol. 214 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - National Milk Pool.

76.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has given any consideration to a recent suggestion that a national milk pool should be established; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Irish Agricultural Organisation Society, to whom the Government has assigned the task of reorganising the co-operative movement, including the co-operative creamery industry, is at present endeavouring to rationalise the supply of milk to processing centres. This can be regarded as a preliminary step towards the rationalisation of the whole industry and it is conceivable that it could lead in time to something in the nature of a national milk pool.
