asked the Minister for Education if, having regard to the widespread support for the recent criticism by the President of the Irish National Teachers' Organisation of the methods used to teach Irish, steps will be taken to improve the methods in accordance with the recommendations of that organisation.

A scientific investigation of the structure and vocabulary of the spoken language was initiated in 1963 with a view to formulating a planned approach to the teaching of Irish in primary schools. When this investigation has been completed graded courses will be recommended to the schools.
