Mr. Tully

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state as regards short-term disability benefit payments for male workers (a) the national average duration of incapacity, (b) the average duration for local authority employees, (c) the average duration for turf workers, and (d) the average duration for agricultural workers.

The information required by the Deputy is as follows:—

Average duration of short-term disability benefit claims for male workers:

(a) national average duration of incapacity ... 9.5 weeks

(b) average duration for local authority employees not available

(c) average duration for turf workers ... 12.2 weeks

(d) average duration for agricultural workers... 14.3 weeks

As regards (b) the information cannot be supplied as the statistics are prepared on the basis of the occupation of the claimant not of the business of his employer.
