Vol. 215 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary School.

21.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that Ballyhurst National School, Tipperary, a school of thirty pupils, is devoid of any proper sanitation despite the fact that, the piped water supply passes nearby; and if he will take immediate steps to provide either an adequate sanitation system or a complete new school building.

I am aware that there is a piped water supply adjacent to Ballyhurst national school, which was erected in 1848. In view of the age of the building, expenditure on a major scheme of improvements would not be warranted.

My Department is considering whether it would be more advantageous educationally to close the school and convey the small number of children in attendance to the nearby Tipperary town schools.

Would the Minister be good enough to ensure that there will be no undue delay in coming to that decision?

The Chair should hear the question as well as the Minister.

It is the fault of the public address system.

I shall endeavour to see it is expedited.
