Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cheap Fuel Schemes.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) in what areas cheap fuel schemes for old people in poor circumstances are in operation, (b) the annual cost of such schemes over the past five years, and (c) if he will consider the introduction of some such scheme for the entire country during winter months.

The cheap fuel scheme operates from November to March annually in Arklow, Balbriggan, Bray, Crok, Drogheda, Dublin, Dundalk, Dungarvan, Dún Laoghaire, Ennis-corthy, Gorey, Kilkenny, Limerick, New Ross, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.

The cost to the Exchequer in the past five years was as follows:—

Extension of the scheme is not envisaged.
