Vol. 215 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Building Materials.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that at present cases are arising where timber and other building materials which should be classed as seconds are being sold as first quality at top prices; and if he will introduce regulations to ensure that sawmills, manufacturers of building materials, etc., will be required to mark any goods which are classed as seconds with an appropriate and clearly recognisable mark.

I am not aware of the practice described by the Deputy and I have no power to provide by regulations for the marking of goods on the lines indicated in the question.

If I give the Minister some evidence, will he consider inquiring into the complaint?

I do not see what I can do about it, but, if the Deputy has any evidence, I shall be glad to have it.
