Vol. 215 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Oil Supplies.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that when the ESB recently asked for tenders for the supply of oil to Rings-end Power Station, Dublin, part of the contract was awarded to a firm (name supplied), who in fulfilment of this contract imported some 20,000 tons of oil direct through Dublin Port from Poland without processing at Whitegate, County Cork; and if, in view of the possible danger to employment at Whitegate, he will take steps to ensure that State bodies such as the ESB use only oil which has been processed at Whitegate.

The placing of contracts is a function of the Board. I am informed by the ESB that they have placed contracts which should absorb the total amount of residual fuel oil available from the Whitegate Refinery after the demands of other users have been met. A small balance of requirements for 1965 is being met by imports from Poland. I am not aware of any danger to employment at Whitegate.
