Vol. 215 No. 7

Written Answer. - Agricultural Employment.

40.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give (1) up-to-date particulars of agricultural remuneration, employment and wages in extension of the replies of 6th February, 1964; (2) the levels of agricultural employment measured by the sale of insurance stamps in the form of the the Table on page 22 of Economic Statistics, 1964; and (3) up-to-date figures relating to average weekly earnings in industry and agriculture (Table 14 of Economic Statistics) including the effect of the Agricultural Wages Order, 1965.

The data requested at (1) and (3) of the Deputy's question are given in the tables below.

With regard to (2) of the question the latest figures available are those given in my reply to Question 37 on 12th November, 1964. Corresponding estimates for later periods are not available because, following the change in rates of social insurance stamps introduced in January, 1964, it is not possible to distinguish between sales of stamps in respect of male agricultural workers and those in respect of certain categories of voluntary contributors.
