Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Housing Needs.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in providing houses for those on the waiting list in Ardfinnan and Newcastle, County Tipperary.

I understand that the Tipperary (South Riding) County Council are having difficulty in obtaining suitable sites to cater for the housing needs of applicants in Ardfinnan and Newcastle but are continuing their efforts to acquire them.

Is the Minister aware that there are people in Ardfinnan and Newcastle on the approved list for houses for the past 4½ to five years?

That would not surprise me.

That is the case all over the country.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government to what extent the housing needs of Clonmel, County Tipperary have been met; and what are the future requirements.

I understand that the 129 dwellings which Clonmel Corporation have under construction at present will be sufficient to cater for the ascertained needs of families occupying unfit houses or living in overcrowded conditions in the town.

Plans were approved for 14 houses and a site is to be acquired for about 20 further houses. A substantial number of private dwellings are to be provided by the National Building Agency on a site supplied by the corporation.

The corporation have not yet made an assessment of the future housing needs of Clonmel.
