Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Dublin Canals.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the Government are likely to take a decision in the near future as to whether the canals that flow through the city of Dublin will be reclaimed or developed as a tourist amenity.

I cannot give the Deputy any indication at this stage as to when decisions will be taken about the future of the Dublin city sections of the canals. I would remind the Deputy, however, that CIE may not close a canal to navigation until the expiration of three years from the date on which it was last used for public navigation, and any change from this position would involve amending legislation.
