6.

asked the Minister for Finance how much will be spent on social and ancillary services during the present financial year; and how this compares with 1957.

Expenditure from the Exchequer on social and ancillary services, including education, in the present financial year is estimated at £132 million to which should be added roughly £5¼ million for administration. The corresponding figures for 1957-58 were £78 million and £3 million.
