Vol. 215 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seaside Lifesaving Equipment.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in view of the approach of the holiday season and the consequent likelihood of an increase in the number of drowning accidents he will state what arrangements are being made to increase the number of lifeguards and lifebuoys at the popular seaside resorts.

I have exhorted sanitary authorities on many occasions to exercise their statutory powers to minimise bathing risks, particularly by means of an increase in the number of lifeguards and the provision of more modern lifesaving equipment at popular seaside resorts. I propose to remind them again in the near future of their responsibilities in this important matter.
