Vol. 215 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Vocational Schools.

57.

asked the Minister for Education what progress has been made concerning the proposed new vocational school at Sallynoggin, County Dublin.

All stages of planning have now been completed in regard to the proposed vocational school at Sallynoggin, County Dublin, and the Borough of Dún Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee have advertised for tenders for the building work.

58.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the need for a vocational school at Deansgrange, County Dublin; and if he can state what steps are being taken to provide a vocational school there.

A comprehensive survey of the future needs of the County Dublin area in the matter of vocational education was submitted to my Department on 5th April last, and is under consideration. It is not proposed to provide a vocational school at Deansgrange for the present, but the Committee have suggested the purchase of a site somewhere in the area east of Stillorgan as a long-term measure. I will give my decision in the matter as soon as possible.

59.

asked the Minister for Education what additional facilities it is proposed to provide at Dundrum Vocational School, County Dublin; and if they include a separate vocational school for girls at Dundrum.

A new vocational school for girls is at present being built at Dundrum, and will be in operation in the coming school session. The County Dublin Vocational Education Committee proposes to alter the existing vocational school to cater solely for boys.

60.

asked the Minister for Education if there are any plans for the erection of a vocational school at Walkinstown, County Dublin.

A proposal for the provision of two vocational schools at Walkinstown, one for boys and one for girls, together with relevant statistical information, was contained in a general survey of the needs of the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee's area submitted to my Department on 5th April, 1965.

The proposal is at present under active consideration in my Department, and I hope to be in a position to issue a decision to the Committee in the near future.
