Vol. 216 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Forestry Products.

23.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the considerable dissatisfaction existing among local farmers and other residents in South Tipperary owing to the fact that all stakes, poles etc. from Department forests are sold under contract to large firms; and if he will take steps to ensure that forestry products of this type may also be sold in small lots to local residents.

As a matter of practice, timber is made available in small lots at forest centres to meet the reasonable needs of the local people and I am not aware of any case of difficulty or dissatisfaction. Particular requirements of size or species may not be available at a given time at any one centre but in an area as well endowed with State forests as South Tipperary it is normally possible to meet any reasonable requirement from material currently available at one or other of the local centres.

If the Deputy has a particular case in mind, he might furnish the details to my Department.
