Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Planning and Development Expenditure.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is prepared to recoup local authorities portion of the expenditure involved in implementing the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963.

Present and proposed forms of assistance constitute substantial material help to planning authorities in implementing the Planning and Development Act, 1963. Expenditure on re-development works relating to local authority housing, roads, derelict sites, local amenities and sanitary services attracts the usual rates of subsidy appropriate to these works. Direct assistance is afforded to local staffs by my Department and by An Foras Forbartha which is holding seminars and providing manuals incorporating advice and instruction to local authorities on various aspects of planning. Regional surveys and plans have been arranged for the Dublin and Limerick regions and are proposed for the other seven regions. These plans will be of material assistance to planning authorities in the preparation of their own development plans.

I am also arranging for an aerial survey to be carried out over built-up areas. The cost of this service will be borne by the State and it will simplify the work of the planning authorities in the conduct of their land use surveys.
