Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bus Strike: Allowances to Army Personnel.

asked the Minister for Defence what special allowances are being paid to Army personnel operating passenger-carrying lorries during the bus strike.

Special allowances as follows are payable to army personnel engaged on the emergency transport service by army lorries during the present stoppage of public transport:—

(a) 10/6d a day to non-commissioned officers and privates employed as—

(i) drivers and conductors, or

(ii) drivers on supervisory or special driving duties, or

(iii) queue controllers.

(b) 7/- a day to non-commissioned officers and privates, other than those referred to at (a) above, associated with the work.

The allowance of 7/- a day also applies to officers engaged on the emergency transport service.
