Vol. 216 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Loans and Grants.

4.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is considering any change in the system for the valuing of houses for loan and grant purposes; and if he intends increasing grants in the near future.

While I do not propose to make any change at present in the prescribed method of determining the value of a house for the purposes of a local authority house purchase loan, I am keeping the matter under review

As regards the final part of the question, I do not propose to make a statement on possible amendments of housing law in advance of the circulation of the new Housing Bill, apart from what has been published in the White Paper.

Is the Minister aware there is considerable difference in the valuation on exactly the same type of house in one local authority area and another, due to the present position?

I am also aware that there are different valuers operating in the two areas the Deputy has in mind.

We are keeping that particularly under review at present.
