Vol. 216 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Telephone Applications.

55.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting a telephone in County Cavan (a) for business purposes, and (b) for private purposes; and when these applicants will be serviced.

There are 54 applicants in each category. Arrangements are in hand to connect almost a quarter of these, and it is hoped to offer service to the majority of the remainder during this financial year.

(Cavan): With a view to improving the service in the area, would the Minister consider linking Bailieboro, Kingscourt and Shercock with the automatic exchange in Carrickmacross?

I should need notice of that question which is not included in the original question and I have no information on the file about it, but the idea is to have all exchanges automatic. As to the centre to which any particular exchange would be connected, and in particular the exchange mentioned by the Deputy, it is something I would be unable to say unless he give me notice.

(Cavan): Perhaps the Minister would have this matter examined, as I understand these exchanges could be connected without much difficulty?

I shall have a letter addressed to the Deputy from the Department on the matter.
