Vol. 216 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin School Classes.

65.

asked the Minister for Education the number of national school classes in Dublin city and county in which the number of pupils on rolls exceeds 40; and, if this information is not at present readily available, when a survey will be undertaken to collect the information.

The census in relation to this and other matters which was taken on the 1st February, 1965, is at present being processed. It can, however, be stated in regard thereto that as the teacher/pupil ratio in the larger schools is now one teacher for every 45 pupils in average enrolment the vast majority of classes in Dublin city and county would have an enrolment in excess of 40.

Our aim is to have no class of over 40 and this will be achieved according as additional teachers become available.
