Vol. 216 No. 9

Public Business. - Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, 1965: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Old Age Pensions Acts, 1908 to 1964, the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1933 to 1964, the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, 1935 to 1964, the Social Welfare (Children's Allowances) Acts, 1944 to 1963, and the Social Welfare Acts, 1952 to 1964. —(Minister for Social Welfare.)

When is it proposed to take the next Stage?

On Tuesday next.

When will the Bill be circulated?

Either tomorrow or Friday.

Definitely?

The Second Reading will be on Tuesday?

That is what I am asking for.

I do not know what changes the Minister has in the Bill but is it much more than implementing the proposals of the Budget?

Yes; there are a number of other things, including the raising of the income level for compulsory insurability of non-manual employees and the amendments to the Unemployment Assistance Acts in respect of smallholders.

The Minister cannot tell us too much about it now. He said something about raising the limit.

Raising the limit for compulsory insurability of non-manual employees.

If the Bill is ordered for Tuesday, it does not necessarily mean that the Minister will take it on Tuesday?

It can be tentatively ordered for Tuesday.

Tentatively ordered for Tuesday. That is all.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 29th June, 1965.
