asked the Minister for Local Government the number of (a) applications received and (b) grants paid under section 5 of the Housing Act, 1962 in County WestMeath.

I have ascertained from Westmeath County Council that 73 applications for grants under section 5 of the Housing (Loans and Grants) Act, 1962, have been received. Of these seven cases have been paid to date.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of (a) applications received and (b) grants paid under section 5 of the Housing Act, 1962 in County Longford.

I have ascertained from Longford County Council that 28 applications for grants under section 5 of the Housing (Loans and Grants) Act, 1962, have been received. Of these one case has been paid to date.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the number of condemned houses in County Westmeath (b) the number unfit for human habitation and (c) the present total housing needs for County Westmeath.

I understand that 317 dwellings in Westmeath County have been condemned by the county council under the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1931. Undertakings not to use the houses for human habitation have been accepted in 139 of these cases.

According to the survey of unfit housing completed in 1962 there were 554 unfit houses in the county, 96 of which were incapable of repair at reasonable cost.

An assessment of the total housing needs of the county has not yet been completed. I am informed that there are 170 approved applicants on the waiting list for re-housing in the county at present.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the number of condemned houses in County Longford, (b) the number unfit for human habitation and (c) the present total housing needs for County Longford.

I am informed by Longford County Council that in all 221 dwellings have been condemned under the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1931, and that undertakings not to use the houses for human habitation have been accepted in 139 of these cases.

According to the survey of unfit housing completed in 1963 there were 114 unfit houses in the county, of which 70 were incapable of repair at reasonable cost.

An overall assessment of housing needs in the county has not yet been made. I understand that the council have 72 approved applications for re-housing on hands at present.
