Vol. 217 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Traffic Lights.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there are any proposals before his Department in relation to the provision of traffic lights in the central area of Dublin; whether they include provision for a link system in the O'Connell Street area so as to promote an even flow of traffic; if so, when it is expected that they will be in operation; and when pedestrian operated lights will be provided in this area.

There are no proposals, at present, before my Department in relation to the provision of traffic lights in the central city area of Dublin. I understand, however, that the corporation are considering the provision of a fully integrated system of traffic lights. I cannot say when the system will be provided.

A grant for the provision of pedestrian operated lights in the area was allocated by my Department on 11th February last and it is hoped to provide these lights in the near future.
