Vol. 217 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Applications.

33.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the undue delay in providing a telephone service to a large number of applicants in South Tipperary; and when he expects that these applicants will get a telephone service.

It was necessary to defer the general body of applications in order that the maximum effort could be concentrated on trunk circuiting projects. Considerable progress has been made with these projects and it is planned to offer service in this financial year to all pre-1965 applicants in the area in question and to as many as possible of the later cases.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephones in County Sligo; and when he expects that the backlog will be cleared.

The number is 231 of which 64 are in the course of being cleared. Concerning the remainder it is planned to offer service in the current financial year to all pre-1964 applicants and to as many as possible of the later cases.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone installation in (a) Carlow town and (b) Carlow county; and when all the applications will be cleared.

The number are approximately 50 and 120 respectively, including about 50 for whom provision of service is in hands. Concerning the remainder, it is hoped to offer service in this financial year to all the pre-1965 applicants and to the majority of the later cases.

Could the Minister give the later date for the balance?

All pre-1965 applications this year and as many as possible of the later cases this year.
