Vol. 217 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claremorris Holdings.

68.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is proposed to establish residential holdings in Castlemagarrett Estate, Claremorris, County Mayo; and if, considering the large number of uneconomic holdings on the perimeter of this estate, he considers this good policy.

In addition to approximately 1,000 acres pending for disposal on this estate, further lands comprising some 860 acres are also awaiting allocation in the locality. As comprehensive proposals for allotment of the aggregate area, viz., 1,860 acres, have not yet been finalised, I am unable to indicate what form the scheme of division will take. I can say, however, that, before any question of introducing outsiders is allowed to arise in connection with the resale scheme for the extensive acreage involved, the claims of the many eligible uneconomic holders in and around the locality will be investigated and assessed in a most thorough manner by the Land Commission.
