Vol. 217 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Irish Colleges.

99.

asked the Minister for Education if he will amend the recent book of rules issued by him governing national schools to make provision for the use of such schools in the Gaeltacht as Irish Colleges during the Summer vacation; and if he will extend the vacation period in such schools for an extra three to five days to allow for their rearrangement, etc. after such Irish courses.

There is no objection under the rules of my Department to the use of national school premises in the Gaeltacht as Irish Colleges during the summer vacation. In fact, many such schools are so used. I would see no necessity however for extending the vacation period in the schools in question on the conclusion of the courses.
