Vol. 217 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Prices.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the commodities and services the prices of which are controlled or regulated by him under any enactment, any instrument made thereunder or in discharge of any statutory duty.

Under the Harbours (Regulation of Rates) Act, 1934, and the Harbours Act, 1964, I have power to make Orders fixing the rates to be charged by a particular harbour authority. A number of such Orders fixing the maximum rates of charge have been made from time to time.

Under the Gas Regulation Act, 1957, I have certain powers to make Orders fixing maximum charges for gas. I have not so far found it necessary to exercise these powers.

The maximum road passenger fares chargeable by operators of bus services other than CIE are controlled by regulations made by me under the Road Transport Act, 1932.
