Vol. 217 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Interest Rates of Finance Houses.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of finance houses or institutions operating in this country which offer to provide on money invested a substantially higher rate of interest than that generally available; if he is satisfied that these houses or institutions are creditworthy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the position is as stated in the first part of the Deputy's Question. As regards the second part of the question, I have no statutory function in relation to the institutions referred to. The question of the need for further legislation on banking is being considered.
