Vol. 217 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Grants.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance the names and number of industries that received Government grants or other financial assistance directly from his Department or from bodies under the aegis of his Department during the past five years.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance the total sum by way of grants, etc. paid directly by his Department or by bodies under the aegis of his Department to industries over the past five years, giving the names of such industries; and the amount, if any, that has been repaid to the State by all or any one of the industries referred to.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance the names and number of industries that have received Government grants, etc. directly from his Department or from bodies under the aegis of his Department during the past five years, which have since gone out of existence.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 9, 10 and 11 together.

With the exception of the Racing Board which makes certain grants to assist the bloodstock industry neither my Department nor any of the bodies for which I am responsible provide industrial grants.

As regards other financial assistance, my Department provides capital to enable financing bodies for which I am responsible, namely, the Industrial Credit Company, the Agricultural Credit Corporation and Taiscí Stáit Teoranta, to provide loans and other non-grant types of finance for industry. The reports and accounts of these bodies which are presented to the Oireachtas afford all the information which can properly be disclosed in accordance with normal commercial practice.

I assume that the Deputy's question does not relate to tax reliefs for industry nor to the assistance given by Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann Teo., and its subsidiary Erin Foods Ltd., to local initiatives co-operating with them in the development of the food processing industry.
