Vol. 217 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Galway Slips.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the great need for the erection of slips for the collection of seaweed along the coast of West Galway; and what action he proposes to take to meet the situation.

I am not so aware. The Special Employment Schemes Office sanction grants, in approved cases, for minor marine works recommended to them by the Department of Agriculture. They have, in fact, recently sanctioned a grant for improvement works at Dolan's Pier, Aillebrack and arrangements have been made to start the work. They have no other cases before them at present for West Galway.

If the Deputy will let me have particulars of any cases he may have in mind, I shall look into the matter. I should mention, however, that schemes of this kind in Gaeltacht areas are a matter for the Minister for the Gaeltacht, and any such cases should be taken up with him.
