Vol. 217 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if he still considers it likely that this country will be admitted to full membership of the EEC by 1970; and, if so, if there have been any recent discussions which have caused him to formulate such an opinion.

The assumption we have made as to the date by which we may expect to be admitted to membership of the European Economic Community is a long-range one and I do not consider it necessary to revise it every time some difficulty arises in the Community.

Would the Taoiseach like to answer the second part of the question: if there have been any recent discussions which have caused him to formulate the opinion that this country will be admitted to full membership of the EEC by 1970?

We have had no recent official discussions.

When did the Taoiseach last have discussions in regard to our entry into the Common Market?

It is so long ago that the Taoiseach himself cannot remember. Is that not right?

Has the Taoiseach had any unofficial discussions?
