*For years prior to 1963 the number of man-days lost was estimated by multiplying the approximate number of workers involved in a dispute by the number of days, exclusive of Sundays and public holidays, during which the dispute lasted; in 1963 and 1964 when those involved worked a five-day week, the Saturdays were also excluded. It is assumed that work would have been continued if no dispute had occurred and no allowance is made for loss of work from unemployment or other causes which might have occurred even if there had been no dispute.
