Vol. 217 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchasing Power of Pound.

7.

asked the Taoiseach the value and purchasing power of the pound in 1932, 1938, 1948, 1956 and 1965.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the estimated amounts required in the years specified to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as would £1 at mid-May, 1965. The estimates are based on the retail price index numbers which are calculated in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August, and mid-November each year.

Following is the statement:—
