Vol. 217 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Master TV Aerial.

66.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will permit a master television aerial to be provided in the Ballymun flats scheme, Dublin.

I am prepared to permit the provision of a communal aerial or aerials in the Ballymun housing scheme on the basis described in my reply to the question asked by the Deputy on 15th July, 1965.

Does the Minister realise that the effect of this in Ballymun will be that there will be at least 400 television aerials where one would suffice if only his Department would cut the red tape to which a colleague of his seems to have such an aversion?

He wants to keep them viewing Telefís Éireann.

The small communal aerial about which I told the Deputy last week is capable of servicing ten houses.

For 4,000 houses in Ballymun it would mean, according to what I was taught at school, that there would be 400 aerials, according to the Minister's requirements, instead of one.

It would be ten times more if they had an aerial per house. They may have large communal aerials provided they are prepared to submit to the condition that they will not relay external programmes.

Keep them listening to Fianna Fáil propaganda.
