Vol. 218 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Free Airport: Imports and Exports.

8.

asked the Taoiseach what was the value of (a) the total exports from and (b) the total imports to the Shannon Free Airport in its latest financial year.

The only estimate available of the value of total exports from Shannon Free Airport is that which appears in the latest annual report of Córas Tráchtála, according to which total exports for the year 1964 were worth £14.000,000.

No estimate of the total value of imports into Shannon Free Airport is available.

It is not available.

And no estimate could be made?

There is no means of checking the import of goods into the Airport.

Surely there must be someone in the Department of Industry and Commerce, in the Department of Finance, in the Central Statistics Office, or somewhere in the whole panoply of bodies we have, who could make an estimate of the total imports in the Shannon Free Airport.

I cannot even see what purpose it would serve.

That is another story. Can the information be furnished? If it can, it should be given. The total exports, I understood the Parliamentary Secretary to say, were £14 million.

£14 million.

Perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary would consider getting a figure for the total imports.
