Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Free Seed.

136.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will introduce a scheme to supply free seed in the case of certain small farmers; if he will indicate in what manner and to what extent small farmers are subsidised in regard to the purchase of their seeds; if he has examined this matter; and, if so, with what results.

A subsidy of about one-third of cost is paid on seed supplied under my Department's seed distribution scheme for congested districts and under the seed potato development (subsidy) scheme operated by most county committees of agriculture.
