Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soil Science Survey.

160.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what progress has been made with the Soil Science Survey; and when the surveys of the Counties Leitrim and Roscommon are likely to start.

I am informed by An Foras Talúntais that the position is as follows:

The County Wexford survey has been completed and the report published; the County Limerick survey has been completed and the report is in process of publication. Field work was completed in County Carlow during 1965, and the findings are being prepared for publication. Field work has also been completed in West County Cork, and the report is being prepared for publication. It is hoped that the survey will be completed in County Clare next year. Work is also well advanced in West Mayo and the survey is at present in progress in County Cavan and West Donegal, while preliminary field work has commenced in East Mayo, Galway, Dublin and Meath. Limited field work has also been undertaken in the Dingle Peninsula and North County Kilkenny. While limited survey projects have been and will continue to be undertaken in Counties Leitrim and Roscommon, it will not be possible to commence the systematic survey of these counties before 1967.
