Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unexecuted Court Decrees.

164.

asked the Minister for Justice the percentage of court decrees which are unexecuted by sheriffs and county registrars because of returns of no goods; and whether he will have steps taken to ensure that exhausive enquiries are made in all cases before such returns are given.

The information sought in the first part of the question is not readily available in my Department and could not be obtained without a considerable expenditure of time and effort. I am not satisfied that the work involved would be justified.

I have no reason to think that sheriffs and county registrars are not carrying out their duties properly in relation to the execution of court orders. If a sheriff or county registrar fails to carry out his duties, the individual judgment-creditor has, of course, his remedy at law.
