Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Approval of Housing Expenditure Applications.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and value of applications from local authorities now before his Department awaiting approval of expenditure on housebuilding or house financing operations; the reason for delay in sanctioning such applications; and what steps he will take to expedite commencement of housebuilding and house financing operations.

It would not be possible to give the value of applications on hands as estimates are not available in respect of a large number of proposals which are at early planning stages.

As regards the other information requested by the Deputy, its compilation would involve detailed examination of every housing proposal at present before my Department, varying from proposals for individual dwellings to major building schemes and would involve serious disruption of current work in the Department.

The Deputy will be aware from the White Paper on Housing, the Housing Bill at present before the Dáil, and the various statements made by me of the steps being taken to expedite house building and house financing operations within available resources.
